Quotables

ECU Health’s connection to community partners:

“Aligned with our mission, we’re very community focused. That’s how we got through the pandemic — with very strong community partnerships. Now, we’re shifting the focus of those partnerships and being very tactical to deal with our other challenge, which is the heavy burden of chronic disease in the region. I’m so proud of what ECU Health is able to do alongside our community partners.”

Supporting a community through a pandemic:

“None of us knew what we were in for. How do you support an already underserved population? How do you rise to the occasion as the only health care system east of I-95 with an academic arm to do it all — to build the infrastructure for COVID-19 testing and to educate the community at the same time? Those were the kind of interventions I got to lead and I’m incredibly proud of ECU Health’s support for our communities.”

ECU Health continues to improve quality for patients:

“Since COVID-19, ECU Health has accelerated our quality score improvement across the system as our communities were significantly impacted by the pandemic. Our patient complexity, volume and acuity are much greater than they were pre-COVID, yet we have a lower number of infections than we did pre-COVID. This is accomplished through a culture of continuous improvement and creating important academic and clinical programs at ECU Health, like Teachers of Quality Academy, the Quality Improvement Symposium and Board Quality Leadership Awards.”
