When your child’s care requires hospitalization.
Your child’s unique health care needs will determine where in our hospital he or she will receive care. The general pediatric unit, pediatric intensive care unit, pediatric rehabilitation and the Kids Immunosuppressed Specialty Unit provide comprehensive assessment and treatments by trained health care team members.
Inpatient Pediatric Care
When your child is admitted to ECU Health Maynard Children’s Hospital you can rest easier knowing you have a partner in their care.
Our Provider Team
Hospitalists are board-certified pediatricians specially trained to care for patients with various medical conditions in the hospital and are available 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. Pediatric hospitalists at Maynard Children’s Hospital communicate and coordinate with other providers or specialists involved in your child’s care.
Our hospitalists also communicate with your child’s primary physician to ensure a smooth transition between your referring physician’s office and the hospital before admission and after discharge. In addition, they serve as coordinator of your child’s care in the hospital and will help determine if your child needs to be seen by other specialists.
Family-Centered and Multidisciplinary Rounds
Daily family-centered rounds review and discuss your child’s condition, current treatments, and plan of care with the health care team, child, and family. This provides an opportunity to ask questions and be involved in your child’s care plan. We also include others who can make a difference in your child’s care, including nurses, pharmacists, physical and occupational therapists, speech therapists, counselors, and child life specialists. Bedside rounds often occur between 8 a.m. and 12 p.m. with parents or family encouraged to be present for rounds as able.
Child-Friendly Focus
Our diverse professional team provides developmentally appropriate care for your child while they are in the hospital. Your child is provided age appropriate meals, transport, treatments, activities, and interactions to promote a safe, healing, and less anxious environment. A variety of toys and playtime are also provided as able to encourage normal routines and behavior.
Best-Practice and Research Backed
Through active engagement in quality and research work within Maynard Children’s Hospital, this ensures our patients receive exceptional care founded on best-practice principles. We also collaborate with and participate on national and international research and quality initiatives.
Beads Program
Beads of Courage is a national program designed to honor the challenging journey for children experiencing serious illness. Children tell their story with a collection of beads for procedures, tests and treatment milestones that becomes a symbol using colorful beads as meaningful symbols of courage and serves as a reminder of all they have accomplished.
Beads are the earliest art form known to humans. Every time a bead is given, courage is honored, suffering is alleviated, resilience is strengthened, and the experience of human caring is affirmed. Beads reward accomplishments and milestones, enabling families to celebrate and track their child’s progress.
